About the Petition:
Over the last 35 years of legalized unlimited abortion, nearly
50 million unborn babies have been killed at the hands of
abortionists. Grassfire is committed to putting an end to abortion
through our national "Petition For Life" initiative that includes
raising awareness, concern and support for the rights of the
unborn.
Additionally, Grassfire remains the grassroots voice in
Washington, as we seek to bring about a change in thinking among
our elected lawmakers, and ultimately an end to abortion through
legislation and the courts.
The "Petition For Life" focuses on a number of key pro-life initiatives
that we are pressing House and Senate leadership on:
- Stopping taxpayer support of Planned Parenthood—an
organization that performed
264,943 abortions in the fiscal year of 2005, and attained a
high profit of $55.8 million
and received record taxpayer funding of $305.3 million. In the
2004-2005 fiscal year,
PPFA reported 1,414 adoption referrals (one adoption for every
180 abortions).
However, in 2005-2006, the organization released no information
about the number of
adoption referrals it made.
- Support of pro-life nominees to the Court.
- A true ban on Partial-Birth Abortion.
- Stopping federal funding of research that destroys human
embryos (HR3, S.5)
- Blocking the dangerous RU-486 abortion drug (HR 63).
- A true, universal ban on all forms of human cloning,
including human embryo cloning (S. 1036, HR 2564).
- Passage of the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act (S.356,
HR3442).
- Ultrasound Informed Consent Act (S. 2075).
- Prohibiting the taking of minors across state lines to have
an abortion (HR 1063).
