I want the 854 miles of double-layer border fencing fully funded in this year’s Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill. I am outraged that Congress did NOT fund the Secure Fence Act last year and instead gave DHS discretion over when, where and if to build a border fence. This is outrageous. Now, the same thing is about to happen on the DHS Appropriations bill. I understand Sen. Hutchison will propose an amendment (modeled after SA 3176 attached to the DOD Appropriations bill) that will basically give DHS a free pass to ignore the Secure Fence Act. This amounts to a political hoax. Instead, the DHS Appropriations bill must include: 1. A provision or amendment that funds our border security needs and fully funds the double-layer fence mandated by the Secure Fence Act; 2. A provision or amendment that specifically ties border security/fence funding to the provisions of the Secure Fence Act.
