With
their decision in Kelo vs. New London, U.S. Supreme Court has
stripped American citizens from their constitutional right to own
land, and set the stage for widespread “land grab” abuses by our
Government.

According to the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, we are
protected against the government’s right of eminent domain. Prior
to this ruling, the Fifth Amendment restricted the right of
eminent domain—meaning the government could not exercise this
right for a “public use” without paying for it.
For 200 years “public use” was interpreted to mean schools, police
stations, roads, bridges or other facilities that were owned by
the government for our benefit. However with this ruling, the
court has erased the “public use” clause from the Constitution
making it possible for a greedy government to seize private land
if it increases a town or city’s revenue!
As Justice Sandra Day O’Connor wrote in her dissent, “This
decision renders virtually all private property vulnerable to
government confiscation.”
Grassfire is outraged by the ruling, and has launched a national
“Restore My Property Rights” petition to rally and mobilize at
least 100,000 citizens over the next 30 days who hold the Fifth
Amendment as a sacred right, and are demanding the U.S. Supreme
Court reverse its decision and honor the original intent of our
U.S. Constitution.
Grassfire will present your petitions of support to the court and
elected lawmakers until this error is corrected!
Urgent Alert :
Following a Property Rights victory in the House, attention now
turns to the Senate, and The Protection of Homes, Small
Businesses, and Private Property Act of 2005 (S. 1313), a bill
introduced by Sen. John Cornyn. Grassfire has just presented more
than 90,000 petitions in support of S. 1313--a bill that would
protect home and business owners from having their land seized.
Grassfire is urging ALL team members to contact their Senators,
urging them to co-sponsor and support S. 1313. If you do not have
Grassfire's Congressional Directory, you can reach your Senators
by calling the Capitol Switchboard at: 202-224-3121.
With additional presentations expected, Grassfire is rallying an
additional 30,000 signers over the next 30 days. Please add your
name to the petition, and encourage friends and family to do the
same.

The Petition States:
As a concerned
citizen, I find the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in
Kelo vs. New London reprehensible, and urge them to
move immediately to right this obvious wrong and
restore our Fifth Amendment Right and its original
intent back to the people.
The Rights found in our Constitution are sacred, and
shall not be manipulated to embolden greedy city
officials. Until this wrong can be righted, I am
calling on elected officials to support The
Protection of Homes, Small Businesses, and Private
Property Act of 2005 (H.R. 3087, S. 1313), that
seeks to clarify government’s exercise of its power
of eminent domain limiting it only for public use.
